For instance, Heidelberg has of course it’s castle where vampires and friends are going to take over control tonight. As the US Army had been based here for a long time, Halloween has been celebrated ever since and we don’t feel like it’s a newfangled event. Instead, it’s almost a tradition that kids ring at your door in the evening asking for treats. Especially my mother is well prepared – and sad if only a few ghosts and little monster knock on her door.
Once I even had a neighbor from the States that exaggerated not only with decorating his house but also turned his garden into a graveyard with tombstones and his garage to a hellhole to entertain both kids and adults. Had always been a great party…
Yeah, and also worth mentioning is Burg Frankenstein near Darmstadt which is not far away. Although I have to admit that I’ve never been there, friends are crazy about the party there. it must be so cool… pardon, horrifying of course!
Halloween seems to be celebrated more in the US than UK, so I guess if you grew up with Americans in the (neighbour)hood – it must have been good. I love Halloween and often wish for more here too.
