There’s the saying, “learn from your mistakes”, better still, learn from someone else’s mistake so you don’t make them in the future.
In these situations I asked some (pre-)/intermediate level students to write a mail asking for information about holiday apartments and as well as a few lines (Whatsapp style) from their holidays.
I often do these exercises as part of feedback sessions to written exercises. Naturally these are typical examples of “Dinglish” mistakes. In each sentence there is at least one mistake and for the most part more. Can you correct these!
- I’m writing to get some informations.
- Have you some special offers for self-catering accommodations?
- We look forward to hear of you soon.
- I’m already 6 days in Denmark.
- My wife and me make holidays in Spain.
- When I arrive at home, we can see us.
- I apologise me to forget your birthday, so happy birthday afterwards.
How well did you do? Itching to find out? Look no further than down below. I highlighted what was wrong and made suggestions. If you want, you can also check out the short corrections video I made https://teatimetitbits.de/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Tuesday-Teaser-Correct-these-if-you-can.mp4
