Tuesday Teasers. Correct these if you can.

There’s the saying, “learn from your mistakes”, better still, learn from someone else’s mistake so you don’t make them in the future.

In these situations I asked some (pre-)/intermediate level students to write a mail asking for information about holiday apartments and as well as a few lines (Whatsapp style) from their holidays.

I often do these exercises as part of feedback sessions to written exercises. Naturally these are typical examples of “Dinglish” mistakes. In each sentence there is at least one mistake and for the most part more. Can you correct these!

  • I’m already 6 days in Denmark.

  • I apologise me to forget your birthday, so happy birthday afterwards.

Suggestion: My wife and I are on holiday in Spain.

  1. When I arrive at home, we can see us.

Suggestion: When I arrive home, we can see each other

  1. I apologise me to forget your birthday, so happy birthday afterwards.

Suggestion: I apologise for forgetting happy birthday

 belatedly.
